Of these November days past
If nothing else this year, at least Missouri beat Kansas and had a somewhat winning season. Blaine Gabbert is no Chase Daniel, but Chase Daniel was no Brad Smith his first season either. I look forward to Gabbert's junior year, assuming it goes a little better.
This semester is coming to a close. Ugh. I'll write more about it if it actually ends.
This month has been a pretty good month for family. My brother and his wife and two daughters flew down from Missouri and spent a week here. Unlike the last time they came, I actually set a side some time to be around almost every evening. It was good to see the girls; they grow up much fast when I only see them once a year. I was slightly overwhelming, tho': Liz was around for most of the week with my godson, so we had a six month old, a one year old, and a three-and-a-half year old around and awake and making noise constantly. It was more than I was used to. I don't think I'd been around that many kids so consistently since I last saw all of my cousins in California. It might not have been that overwhelming since I actually lived in California, and that's saying something.
Thanksgiving also went pretty well. Slow day, big dinner, family. The usual, so I liked it.
I have a semi-regular game group again. They like San Juan a lot, and we've tried a few other things like Arkham Horror and Amun-Re. They've gone down pretty well. Chris brought up Space Hulk 3rd Ed. a few weekends ago, and that was a fantastic game. I would consider buying it, but it's $160, and I can't imagine spending that on anything right now. I also got to play a lot of Cosmic Encounter this weekend with the old high school gang, and that was pretty awesome. The expansion for that is coming out, and I have my eye on getting it if it shows up on sale.
The new Doctor Who episode was alright. Story wise, it might have been the best of the 2009 specials, but it hasn't had very stiff competition. Also, it seems like a lot of the payoff for this story won't come until the two Christmas specials come out, which is never a good sign. I'm kinda looking forward to the new season, for the simple reason that I think that Russel T. Davis is just trying to hard to be memorable and clever in these last half-dozen stories, and that gets old really quick.
I look different now.
